Gould LMG1110 in the Southern Ocean from November to December 2011 (Salp_Antarctic project) | This is from the cruise report (see LGM1110 deployment page for link) and\nparticulary pertains to the Fluorescence data that were collected:\n \n\\Preliminary CTD Results: A total of 20 CTD stations were occupied and\nsampled during the cruise. Hydrographic data were collected in all sampling\nregions of the study. Casts were sent to the shallower of 1,000 m or 5-10 m\nabove the bottom. The primary fluorometer was mis-calibrated (had the wrong\nscale factor in the calibration/processing file), so fluorescence data from\nthe first four (or five) stations (Stns #22, #7, #8, #11) had to be re-\nprocessed with the correct scaling factor. Examination of the *.cnv file\nshowed which casts had the miscalibrated data, as the max reading for\nfluorescence was ~ 0.05 mg/m3. For nearly every other station, maximum\nfluorescence readings were > 1.0 mg/m3. A secondary fluorometer was added to\nthe CTD rosette between Stns #11 and #12, which verified that the issue was\nwith the scale factor in the CTD processing software.\\\n \nThe data that are served have warnings about fluorescence numbers in the\nheaders of the casts at Stations 22, 7, 8 and 11.\n \nVariables that were part of the data that have been rendered invisible from\nthe data online are: Elapsed time in seconds, modulo error count (always\nzero), and nbin (number of scans per bin). Palmer Cruise 01-03:\\r\\n\\r\\n2.0 Drifter Measurements (Bob Beardsley and Dick Limeburner)\\r\\nSurface drifters are being deployed and tracked via satellite to study the near surface Lagrangian currents in the SO GLOBEC study area on the western Antarctic Peninsula Shelf. Each drifter has a small (~ 30 cm diameter) surface float with ARGOS transmitter and batteries tethered to a holey sock drogue centered at 15 m below the surface. The drogue, about 10 m tall and 1 m in diameter, is designed to \\lock\\ itself to the water so that the surface float follows the mean water motion at 15 m depth with very little slippage even in high winds.
