log in [Microsensor profiles] - Coral microsensor profiles collected during exposure to low pH in outdoor mesocosms in Hawaii from July 2023 to August 2023 (Collaborative Research: Reevaluating calcification response to changes in seawater chemistry by testing the Proton Flux Hypothesis and the Coral Metabolism Model) This dataset contains measurements of proton and oxygen fluxes, diffusive boundary layer (DBL) structure, and carbonate chemistry conditions for two Hawaiian coral species, Montipora capitata (urn:lsid:marinespecies.org:taxname:287697) and Pocillopora acuta (urn:lsid:marinespecies.org:taxname:759099), exposed to controlled seawater carbonate chemistry treatments. Coral colonies were collected from fringing reef habitat in Kāne‘ohe Bay, Hawai‘i, acclimated in flow-through mesocosms, and subjected to a 19-day exposure to either ambient or elevated pCO2 conditions. Seawater chemistry, including temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, pH, total alkalinity, and derived carbonate system parameters, was monitored throughout the experiment.\nMicrosensor profiling of oxygen and pH was conducted in a custom flow-controlled flume to quantify boundary layer gradients and calculate proton and oxygen fluxes using Fick's first law. Measurements were collected at high vertical resolution above coral tissue surfaces to characterize fine-scale chemical environments under both control and elevated pCO2 conditions. These data provide detailed assessments of how coral boundary layer chemistry and metabolic fluxes respond to short-term ocean acidification exposure in two ecologically important coral taxa.\nThe dataset includes raw microsensor profiles, calculated DBL thickness, proton and oxygen fluxes, buoyant weights, genotype identifiers, and all associated seawater carbonate chemistry measurements. These observations support broader efforts to understand coral physiological responses to ocean acidification and provide mechanistic insight into species-specific and condition-dependent changes in coral boundary layer processes.\n\ncdm_data_type = Other\nVARIABLES:\nexperiment_year (unitless)\ndistance_um (micrometers (um))\nspecies (unitless)\ntreatment (unitless)\ncondition (unitless)\ngenotype (unitless)\nO2 (milligrams per liter (mg/L))\npH (pH Total Scale)\nhplus (unitless)\nbulk (unitless)\n BCO-DMO bcodmo_dataset_995180_v1
