Ships, planes, and other vessels that come to rest on the seafloor introduce metals to the marine environment. Underwater cultural heritage (UCH) sites become important habitats for sessile invertebrates, but the materials they are made from can impact the composition of species living on them. We collected and analyzed images from three sites in Palau (two shipwrecks and one plane wreck from WWII) along with directly adjacent (1 – 5 m away) naturally-occurring coral reefs. We collected images of the sessile invertebrate fauna at each site using a Nikon D850 camera with a wide-angle lens, a GoPro Hero 7 with a wide-angle lens, and two Olympus TG-6 cameras. Wide-angle photography was used to record adult corals or other sessile invertebrates (≤ 5 cm diameter) in quadrats (0.34 ± 0.01 m2, mean ± SE). Olympus cameras were used for macro photography of young coral recruits (< 5 cm diameter), with each recruit being photographed individually to enable identification. Images were used to visually identify and count sessile invertebrates living on each wreck and the adjacent coral reefs. Coral species were identified to the genus level by comparison to published guides. Other sessile invertebrate species were identified to broad taxonomic categories (e.g., wire coral, sponge, tube worm).\n\ncdm_data_type = Other\nVARIABLES:\nPhoto_Name (unitless)\nDate (unitless)\nSite (unitless)\nlatitude (degrees_north)\nlongitude (Long, degrees_east)\nCategory (unitless)\nTransect (unitless)\ndepth (Depth_m, m)\nAcanthastrea (unitless)\nAcropora (unitless)\nCantharellus (unitless)\nCoelastrea (unitless)\nCtenactis (unitless)\nCycloseris (unitless)\n... We aimed to investigate whether coral larvae spawned in semi-enclosed lagoons in Palau have the potential to disperse out of the lagoons, settle, and survive on outer reefs. We focused on massive Porites, which is a common mounding coral on both classic and extreme reefs in Palau. We conducted an experiment to determine whether post-settlement survival differs between corals settling on their natal (home) extreme reef or at a classic (away) reef. Adult massive Porites corals were collected from six sites in Palau immediately prior to their spawning season in April 2023. Porites gametes from 3 males and 2 females were used in a bulk cross. Two dpf, larvae were settled on limestone tiles (15 x 15 cm) with crushed CCA used as a cue. Tiles were maintained in individual plastic containers in flow-through ASW tanks at PICRC. Nine days post fertilization, tiles were deployed to their home reef and an away site (n=10 tiles per site). Sixteen days after deployment (25 days post fertilization), tiles were recovered and examined under a dissecting microscope to identify and count surviving individuals. The number of corals was counted on all tiles post transplantation. Light and temperature were quantified at transplant locations at each site using Hobo Pendants (Onset, Wareham, USA).\n\ncdm_data_type = Other\nVARIABLES:\nTile_identification (unitless)\nNumber_Corals (unitless)\nCategory (unitless)\nLocation (unitless)\nlatitude (degrees_north)\nlongitude (degrees_east)\n https://erddap.bco-dmo.org/erddap/metadata/fgdc/xml/bcodmo_dataset_997286_v1_fgdc.xml https://erddap.bco-dmo.org/erddap/metadata/iso19115/xml/bcodmo_dataset_997286_v1_iso19115.xml https://erddap.bco-dmo.org/erddap/info/bcodmo_dataset_997286_v1/index.htmlTable https://osprey.bco-dmo.org/dataset/997286 (external link) https://erddap.bco-dmo.org/erddap/rss/bcodmo_dataset_997286_v1.rss https://erddap.bco-dmo.org/erddap/subscriptions/add.html?datasetID=bcodmo_dataset_997286_v1&showErrors=false&email= BCO-DMO bcodmo_dataset_997286_v1

The two experiments aboard R/V Atlantis cruises AT50-06 and AT50-20 were conducted on 2022-12-26 and 2024-02-28, respectively. Larval gastropods were housed in a custom pressure chamber, pressurized using a JASCO rapid-separation high performance liquid chromatography pump, backlit with a CMVision infrared floodlight, and recorded with a Basler Ace near-infrared camera. These data demonstrate the ability of High-Pressure Plankton Observatory (HiPPO) to quantify plankton swimming behaviors at in-situ pressure and are the first recorded observations of larvae of deep-sea vent gastropods swimming at pressure, potentially useful as inputs for larval dispersal models. Data presented are used in Zúñiga Mouret et al. (2025).\n\ncdm_data_type = Other\nVARIABLES:\ntrackID (unitless)\nmatFilename (unitless)\nPump (unitless)\nsession (unitless)\npartition (unitless)\ntracknumber (unitless)\ncruiseID (unitless)\nStartFrame (unitless)\nEndFrame (unitless)\nCategory (unitless)\nLen (seconds)\nMeanV (centimeters per second (cm/s))\nStdV (centimeters per second (cm/s))\nMeanSpeed (centimeters per second (cm/s))\nStdSpeed (centimeters per second (cm/s))\nMeanV_up (centimeters per second (cm/s))\nMeanV_down (centimeters per second (cm/s))\n https://erddap.bco-dmo.org/erddap/info/bcodmo_dataset_982238_v1/index.htmlTable https://osprey.bco-dmo.org/dataset/982238 (external link) https://erddap.bco-dmo.org/erddap/rss/bcodmo_dataset_982238_v1.rss https://erddap.bco-dmo.org/erddap/subscriptions/add.html?datasetID=bcodmo_dataset_982238_v1&showErrors=false&email= BCO-DMO bcodmo_dataset_982238_v1
