Included are data from twelve CTD/Niskin rosette casts at twelve different stations accompanied by carbonate chemistry analyses (total alkalinity, DIC, and d13C of DIC) from discrete bottle samples collected during each cast. Bottle samples were analyzed by Adam Subhas at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution after the cruise was complete. Data from CTD casts were collected by the Endeavor's shipboard scientific party. These Gulf of Maine seawater observations provide constraints on growth conditions of synchronously collected foraminifera, enabling geochemical paleo-proxies to be assessed and refined for regional paleoceanographic reconstructions.\n\ncdm_data_type = Other\nVARIABLES:\nCTD_Cast (unitless)\nNiskin (unitless)\nPotTemp (degrees Celsius)\nSal (unitless)\nDepthm (meters (m))\nDIC_Bottle (unitless)\nDICumolkg (micromoles per kilogram seawater)\nd13Cpermil (permille vs PDB)\ntalkumolkg (micromoles per kilogram seawater)\nDICsd (micromoles per kilogram seawater)\nd13Csd (permille vs PDB)\ntalksd (micromoles per kilogram seawater)\nScan (unitless)\nTimeJ (days)\nTimeS (seconds)\nPrDM (meters (m))\nT090C (degrees Celsius)\nT190C (degrees Celsius)\nT2_T190C (degrees Celsius)\n... | log in | [Flume experiment Vectrino velocity and turbulence] - Velocity and turbulence measurements around a dense aggregation of mussels from a flume experiment conducted July 2023 (Collaborative Research: Microscale interactions of foundation species with their fluid environment: biological feedbacks alter ecological interactions of mussels) | The project investigates how the metabolic activity of dense aggregations of marine organisms alter the water chemistry of their interstitial spaces, and how these microscale alterations feedback to affect the organisms' interactions in coastal ecosystems. The research evaluates whether corrosive chemical microclimates (such as low oxygen or low pH) are most extreme in low flow, high temperature conditions, especially for dense aggregations of mussels with large biomass and/or high respiration rates, and if they negatively impact mussel beds and the diverse biological communities they support. In order to address these questions, a flume experiment was conducted at Friday Harbor Laboratories where flow and chemical gradients were measured within and above a dense aggregation of mussels (Mytilus trossolus). Twenty profiles were taken over 5 days with 5 profiles taken for each of the four experimental flume speeds (0.25, 0.5, 1, and 1.5 inch/sec). Approximately 3-minute-long measurements were taken of velocity, dissolved oxygen, temperature, and pH every centimeter within the bed and two measurements were taken above the bed. Ambient conditions (dissolved oxygen, temperature, pH and conductivity) were also measured continuously using an array of HOBO loggers.\n\ncdm_data_type = Other\nVARIABLES:\nTrial (unitless)\nDay (unitless)\nDate (unitless)\nflume_speed (unitless)\nflume_speed_inch_per_sec (inches per second (in/s))\nflume_speed_cm_per_sec (centimeters per second (cm/s))\nV1 (centimeters (cm))\nV2 (centimeters per second (cm/s))\nV3 (centimeters per second (cm/s))\nV4 (centimeters per second (cm/s))\nV5 (centimeters squared per second squared (cm^2/s^2))\nV6 (centimeters squared per second squared (cm^2/s^2))\nV7 (centimeters squared per second squared (cm^2/s^2))\nV8 (centimeters squared per second squared (cm^2/s^2))\n...
