Niskin bottles (2 to 10 liters (L)) were used to obtain the water samples. Two liters of water were used for total 234Th. In situ pumps (McLane Laboratories) were also deployed to pump ~30 L of water and collect samples for particulate 234Th and POC. Two in-line filters were used: >51 micrometers (µm) (large particle fraction) and ~1 µm (small particle fraction).
